VETTS HOME NATIONS’ SELECTION CRITERIA

This year's Veterans Home Nations event will be played in Guernsey from September  13-15, 2024. VETTS hope to enter VETTS England teams in all age categories to compete against veterans from six other Home Nations .

The age categories for the teams are: O/40M; O/40sW; O/50M; O/50sW; O/60Mixed; O/70sM; O/75M. There may  be scope to enter second teams in some events.

There will also be individual competitions.

In order to select teams in an open and transparent way, we have criteria which is intended to be fair to all. To be eligible for selection for the VETTS England team you must:

a) be a current member of the VETTS; and

b) be eligible to play for an English county; and

c) not have represented any other nation/national society in the past three years; and

d) have played in at least three of the following VETTS Masters events:

Nationals (Aldersley) 2023,                                         North East (Sunderland) 2023;

Midlands (Aldersley) 2023,                                          Eastern (Norwich) 2023;

Southern (Crawley) 2024,                                 North/North West (Preston) 2024;

Western (Thornbury) 2024.

Places in the teams will then be offered in strict ranking order from those eligible for selection. The lists used will be the TTE May 2024 veterans rating list for the O/40s; and VETTS ranking lists published after the Western Masters 2024 for all other age categories.

The VETTS will provide an official VETTS shirt for players who haven’t already been given one, and will also pay the entry fees and tickets for the gala dinner for players. The VETTS cannot cover costs of accommodation and transport. Usually the host nation, in this case Guernsey, recommends a hotel deal.

The selection process will be administered by Susie & Ritchie Venner. We will start contacting players in the next couple of weeks.

Other nations

Some VETTS members may be eligible to play for the following countries, namely: Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, Guernsey, and Jersey. If you wish to play for another Nation, please contact Susie or Ritchie and they will put you in touch with the relevant selectors.

The criteria to play for another country is the responsibility of that nation, but often includes criteria such as:

1.    Resident in country

2.    Born in country

3.    Either parent born in country

4.    Any grandparent born in country
