A Tribute to Chester Barnes

VETTS pay tribute to a true Table Tennis legend

For many members of the VETTS, the name Chester Barnes was synonymous with a special time in table tennis, full of characters in the domestic game.  Chester was not only an exciting talent, winning the English title when only 15, but also a charismatic personality, who became a household name.  Our Society comprises many players who feel privileged to have met him, and to have witnessed his extraordinary talent.   He will never be forgotten.

We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.  R.I.P Chester.

Our Irish friends have also sent their condolences:

"On behalf of our Irish Veterans TT Society, I would like to offer our condolences on the sad news of Chester’s passing. He played in many of our tournaments here in 1960s and 70s. He guested on the Irish team on two occasions when the Chinese team appeared here in 1971.

Chester was a phenomenal player who provided marvellous entertainment to those fortunate enough to see him play. May he rest in peace!

Brian Finn."
